Hey nice plug-in, will definitely use it. I was actually searching for a plugin which can comment from the admin panel. Thanks again

    Cheers

  • Ajay · 2 years ago
Great job on the plugin! This is definitely one must have... just a suggestion, if you can hit the reply button and load the form on the same page instead of a new page, then it will be cooler :)
  • Geeko · 2 years ago
    just testing the reply.
  • keith · 2 years ago
    Hi Ajay,

Glad you liked the plugin, Yes I will be releasing a update on this sometime mid week which will allow you to reply from within the page itself.

  • jester · 2 years ago
I have been looking for something like this forever! Thanks for building it...

I do have an error code that generates when I submit a comment from your reply screen. The comment gets saved and appears correctly on the site but the error pops up and does not send me back to the comments screen.

    Here's the error:

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/jester/public_html/wp-admin/admin-header.php:16) in /home/jester/public_html/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 275

    Any ideas?
  • keith · 2 years ago
    Hey Jester,

Thanks for the bug info, I will look into it and fix it, could you please let me know the version of WP you are using and the browser and OS too. It would help me a lot in solving this.

    Thanks
    Keith
  • jester · 2 years ago
Hey Keith, I'm running wordpress 2.1.2 on a hosted server that uses cpanel. Browser is firefox 2.0.0.3 on Mac 10.4.9 .

    Thanks for looking into it.
  • alldoneup · 2 years ago
    cool, just testing
  • keith · 2 years ago
Thanks for the information. I will try and fix this issue ASAP, I am releasing a newer version this week, which is much more powerful and integrates with another nifty comments plugin.

The bugs are my priority though and will fix it before i release the next version.

    Keith
  • Jim · 2 years ago
This is a really slick plugin. I like it very much.

I'm getting the same error jester is. I'm using WP 2.1.3 on the same type of server (Bluehost, if it matters) with PHP 4.4.4. I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.3 on Windows XP.
  • keith · 2 years ago
    HI Technobites,

  • keith · 2 years ago
    Hey Matt, My pleasure :)
  • Rolando · 2 years ago
It installed without any problem, but when I went to the Better Comment option page, it did not load for some reason. Weird.

I'm on WP 2.2 using a custom theme.
  • keith · 2 years ago
    Hi Rolando,

Thanks for letting me know. Can you let me know a little more about the error, does it have show just the blank screen?

Could you also tell me the Browser version and OS you are using.

    Keith
  • Lanooz · 2 years ago
Since I had updated my wordpress to 2.2 this plugin is out of order. Most people got a problem with it in wordpress 2.2. So..it will be great, if you update this awesome plugin :)
  • keith · 2 years ago
    Hi Lanooz,

Can you tell me the problems you are facing with WP2.2 I will definitely try and fix them.

    Keith
  • Lanooz · 2 years ago

Instead of showing me a comment that I posted via this plugin it's breaking up this whole page. And the error 404 appearing in the part of admin panel.

    Here's the screenshot

    click

Yes, this page that is appearing that's the error 404.

    (and in default: click)

And of course, it doesn't post any comment.

    Regards,

    Lanooz.

  • Lanooz · 2 years ago
Ouch. Ignore that first paragraph in this comment above, sorry :)
  • keith · 2 years ago
    Hi Lanooz,

Thanks for letting me know about the problem.

I can see that you are using a customized theme for the admin, I haven't tested it with customized themes yet. But will do it now.

Can you please give me more details about which wordpress version you are using, the customized theme etc.

    Keith
  • Lanooz · 2 years ago
    Newest wordpress version - 2.2
And SpotMilk theme for admin panel.
    I think that's all..?
If there are other things that you would like to know, just tell.
  • Jaypee · 2 years ago
I'm running WP 2.2 and using the Spotmilk Admin theme and I have no problem with this plugin. There could another plugin that's causing a conflict.

Btw, great job with the plugin Keith! I like this plugin so much and I just did a review for it here :D
  • keith · 2 years ago
    Hi Jaypee,

Thanks for the review, I am glad you liked it.
Have a few more features I want to add hope to do it soon, just caught up with work so could not implement it yet.

    Keith
  • lilian · 2 years ago
    Hi Keith
Awesome plugin! I use it for two of my sites. One is working but the other is not. I get this message:

Your comment is rejected as your browser's agent string has changed since you viewed this post.

Hmmm...I can't figure out why. I am using a modified theme though.

    Lilian aka 5xmom
  • keith · 2 years ago
    Hi Lilian,

Glad you liked it. I will have a look at the problem you are facing so that I would be able to help you out.

I will definitely fix this in the next version if I can find out the problem

    Keith
  • Jaypee · 2 years ago
@Keith - You're welcome! Looking forward to the upcoming features for this great plugin. More power! :)
  • Lanooz · 2 years ago
That's strange. Maybe Japee is right, i could be some plugin fault.
    So i will check soon.
  • Manas · 2 years ago
Thanks for the plugin ... :)
  • keith · 2 years ago
    Glad you like it Manas
  • Kris Cain · 2 years ago
Great plugin. I will be using this on a couple of sites. I have one question though which was not clear (or I could just be slow ;)). Does this plugin automatically notify the person via email that there is a reply or do they have to check that box for followup?

    Thanks!
  • keith · 2 years ago
    Hey Kris,

Nice question, I have not yet really checked or tested that out, but will definitely do that now and let you know.

    Keith
  • Mike · 2 years ago
    Quick question.

How did you get that "Spam protection: Sum of @+@?" in the comments section? I'd like to do that instead of using AuthImage.

    Thx, Mike.
  • keith · 2 years ago
    Hi Mike,

I am using a wordpress plugin called Math Comment Spam Protection to do that.

    Keith
  • cubanresourceful · 2 years ago
Ok, I am wondering, maybe error on my part, but I dunno. When I enable plug-in, not only do I get Better Comment Manager in the Comments tab, but also after the Options tab. Why is this?
  • keith · 2 years ago
Hi cuban its is not a error it is a feature to make the better comments manager easily accesible
  • cyt · 2 years ago
I got the following error after activated the plugin:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: wp_enqueue_script() in /home/cytjulia/www/blog/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/better-comments-manager/bcm-edit-comments.php on line 6

any idea what's wrong? thx a lot
  • keith · 2 years ago
    Hi cyt,

Can you please uninstall and reinstall the plugin once again. If the error does not go away I will help you to resolve the issue.

    Keith
  • cyt · 2 years ago
    thanks Keith,

i reinstalled the plugin many times last night but the problem still exists, would you please help to check what's wrong with the plugin?thanksthanksthanks~~~~
  • Ronald Huereca · 2 years ago
    cyt,

What version of WordPress are you using? wp_enqueue_script only works on recent versions of WP (2.1+) I believe.
  • keith · 2 years ago
Thanks for the info Ronald, definitely help to fix the issue.
  • chase · 2 years ago
I have the same error as well but I am using wordpress 2.0.10
  • teodora · 2 years ago
tried 1.2 and 1.3 with my 2.01 WP but always get

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: wp_enqueue_script() in /.../bcm-edit-comments.php on line 6

:(( any idea why? I'd really need it!
  • teodora · 2 years ago
hi. i updated WP to 2.2.1 and now it works. It didnt work on 2.0.x somehow.
  • Thilak · 2 years ago
This plugin is a real life saver, can't imagine replying to comments without this plugin. Folks from Wordpress should certainly add this feature right into Wordpress.
  • keith · 2 years ago
Glad you liked it Thilak. Yes this feature should defnitely be in the core wordpress
  • Frank · 2 years ago
    Hello, very nice plugin.

i think, it is better, when you change the link to js-library in bcm-edit-comments.php. Then is it not essential, load the own js-library in plugin-folder. WordPress has the librarys in the folder wp-includes/js/ .

    <script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript" src="<?php bloginfo('url'); ?>/wp-includes/js/prototype.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript" src="<?php bloginfo('url'); ?>/wp-includes/js/scriptaculous/effects.js"></script>

    with best regards
    Frank
  • keith · 2 years ago
    Hi Frank,

Yes i will be changing that soon. I was unaware of this feature earlier but you learn as you start doing things so will definitely do that.

    Keith

  • keith · 2 years ago
    @Nirmal Thanks

@Mr Byte Thanks am glad it saves you a lot of time

@Shankar -Yes its for me too, I upgraded my blog using this itself
  • Chris · 2 years ago
Amazing plugin. There are only 2 suggestions I have:

    1. Remove the top-level menu and replace the old comments page with the "better" one (why have 2?).

    2. Integrate with comment e-mail responder.

    Great work!
  • keith · 2 years ago
Glad you liked it. About suggestion 1, I had got lots of requests so that the plugin was easily accesible.

And 2 I will definitely work and release it with the next version.
  • José Luís · 1 year ago
    Great plugin, thanks!
About 2: is this plugin integrated with comment e-mail responder already? If not, is there an E.T.A.?
  • Val · 2 years ago
I adore the concept of this plugin, but perhaps I either a) did something wrong, or b) I'm not using it properly. I was under the impression that this plugin would add the replies directly below the original comment ... right now, it posts my replies at the bottom of the page, which isn't very useful for me. Am I doing something wrong?
  • keith · 2 years ago
    Hi Val,

This plugin on its own does not show the comments below the replying comment. You can at anytime use Brian's Threaded Comments and it will automatically switch to that view when you use the threaded reply to reply to a comment.
  • enkysteady · 2 years ago
Got this error code while try to access to better comments manager panel:Fatal error: Call to undefined function: attribute_escape() in /home/enky/domains/regins.cn/public_html/wp-content/plugins/better-comments-manager/bcm-edit-comments.php on line 12“

Don't know why... Can you help me out?
  • Nick · 2 years ago
Fantastic plugin! Thank God for people like you who share their talents with the rest of the world. I will be using the Better Comments Manager every day. I found this through Darren Rowse's ProBlogger Tips article 5 Comment Management Plugins for Wordpress.

Thanx Keith for this great plugin, thanx Darren for blogging it. I was in search of a plugin like this one for a long time but unluckily, it is not working for me. I'm on WP 2.0.2. It is just giving a blank "better comments manager" screen.
  • keith · 2 years ago
    Hi Transcriptionist,

Thanks for pointing that out to me I will try and fix that error and update the plugin shortly.

    Keith
  • Transcriptionist · 2 years ago
    Keith,

Found a similar plugin at digitalramble.com but fell in love with "better comments manager plugin." Awaiting eagerly for you to come out with a fix.
  • Derek Wong · 2 years ago
I really like this plugin, but I wanted to ask/let you know that I noticed something in the latest release (1.3). When replying to a comment and manually inputting the html for a link (using the complete anchor link, text, etc), it seems to affect the creation of the first javascript link (the edit link). For some reason, it seems to choke on the addslashes function call in bcm-edit-comments.php line 175. It correctly creates the link with the comment content up until the href in the anchor tag, but then improperly outputs all subsequent comment text.

I only looked at it briefly, but I'll try to look some more and let you know.

Let me know if this is known and/or anything that I can do to help. Thanks again!
  • subcorpus · 2 years ago
this looks like a good plugin ...
    installing now ...
will check back if i run into any troubles and need help ... hehe ...
    thanks for sharing ...
    appreciated ...
  • Larry · 2 years ago
I'm using Better Comments Manager version 1.3 and I'm having problems when I use html within the comment. Any comment that has html in it, like a link, I can no longer edit the comment with the Better Comments Manager. Here is an example of what I'm getting on the line where the date and time should be displayed:

Sep 8, 12:25 PM — [ board minutes. I see that two people on the board that voted against rule changes are up for reelection. Please let your votes reflect how you feel about this issue.

Hi. I am having a problem with the reply button. When I reply and enter the reply the screen goes blank and say preview true. Did I forget to do something? I have 1.3 version and WP 2.1.2 Thanks for your help. anna www.green-talk.com
  • keith · 2 years ago
@Anna upgrade to the latest version 1.4 in that I have fixed the bugs and you should be able to reply properly.
  • JerkyBeef · 2 years ago
I'm having issues with the new WP2.3 and v1.4 any suggestions?
  • Érico Oliveira · 2 years ago
I would like to know if the new version (1.4) is compatible with Wordpress 2.3. Thanks.
  • keith · 2 years ago
It should work fine on 2.3 now, there may be some issues but once I know what they it should work fine. You will get a status to upgrade in your plugins page so that you can upgrade to the latest version hence forth.
  • John P. · 2 years ago
version 1.4 has a bug in b-c-m.php. Lines 111 and 115 refer to undefined functions. Change 'wpau' to 'bcm' and it should work.
  • HighTechDad · 2 years ago
I would really like like to say that I love your plugin. It seems that it will offer lots of help to me, once I get an issue worked out. I also use a plugin called "Recaptcha" (which is pretty neat actually - I have written about it here: http://tinyurl.com/ytw8l6 ).

So, Recaptch is a comment spam protection that is visible on my post pages. But, when I use your plugin and try to make a comment, it gets blocked by Recaptcha (saying that I didn't put in the correct info).

So, is there a way to bypass spam protection within your plugin or can you point to a place in the code where I can put in the recaptcha code so that I can enter in the words allowing me to post?

Can't wait to try your plugin!

    -HTD
  • keith · 2 years ago
HighTechDad I am not sure how to help you but will try out the plugin in the combination with re-captcha and fixed the bugs if any
  • Stephen Hopson · 2 years ago
Is the "Better Comments" plug-in compatible with WP version 2.3?? I am asking because it was not listed on the official WP plug-in compatibility list for version 2.3

    Please advise.

  • keith · 2 years ago
    Hi Stephen,

Yes it is compatible with WP 2.3

    Keith
  • Gio · 2 years ago
I'm using this plugin with WP 2.3 but the search feature doesn't show any results? Also, is the Better Comments Manager tabs supposed to appear twice? It is display at the top level nagivation and comments area?
  • Anna · 1 year ago
I am having problems with the recaptcha plug in and this plug in. I can reply but it never shows up. So I contacted recaptcha and they gave me this work around but since I am php challenged and have no idea how to patch anything, I will give everyone the link and hope they know what to do.

I am afraid if I manually add and delete I will mess things up

I did ask for advice and will post what they tell me.

    Here was the link:

    http://www.coolfactor.org/~gavan/recaptcha.diff.

    Any advice?

    Thanks for your great plugin!

Are you planning to add locale support (for translating into another languages) for the next version?.

    It will be great!

In fact, I'm planning to make a spanish translation for the current version, but I'll not like to make it all over again when new version of BCM gets published :(

I use wordpress 2.3 and the latest better comments manager (1.5.1). Whenever I try to reply from the admin panel I get a blank page or go back to the normal comments link. I can do just fine using Minefield (firefox for leopard) but I'm having problems using this with Safari. Do you know how I can fix this?

if you got time, please do ajax on wordpress 2.5. thank you.
  • Keith Dsouza · 1 year ago
Hey zoso sorry did not get what you meant, can you please elaborate a bit more on this.
  • zoso · 1 year ago
in wp 2.5beta the ajax functions are disabled for BCM
  • Keith Dsouza · 1 year ago
    Hey zoso,

I tested the plugin in WP2.5 and it worked fine, I will check with other users though if they are facing any issues.

Thanks for the heads up though if there is any issue I will release a update shortly.
  • Lomes · 1 year ago
I'm just about to implement this in 2.5 so hopefully the issue gets resolved (if there IS an issue).

One thing I've read is that some plugins will work if they were in a 2.3 installation that is upgraded to 2.5, but not in a vanilla 2.5 install. Something to do with the initial config when you enable the plugin...

Not sure if that's where the poster having issues is coming from, but might be helpful. Hope to see official 2.5 support soon!
  • Beth · 1 year ago
I just upgraded from 2.3 to 2.5 on my test d/b, and BCM worked fine! :D

    Hi there-
I am hoping you can help me. I just downloaded the plugin...but it says 'no posts match criteria.'
Recently i imported my blog over from wp.com. All my comments are there in the admin 'comments' menu, but NONE are listed on any posts. DO you know how i can fix this and what is causing it? I believe this is why the plug in isnt working yet for me.
    Thanks so much!

I can’t think of an easy way to do that generically, especially given that Wordpress Hashcash can’t whitelist anything, only banlist things it thinks are bad. It would be possible to add this as a special option, though, to drop failing comments into akismet and let it sort it out…

I want to use it - but I have a problem. I secured the /wp-admin/ with a htaccess pass. So I need to enter a pass before I get to the admin-login.

Fine, BUT if I use the Plugin given by you, I need to enter the pass too, but my users of course do not know the pass. How can I get rid of this problem? Any help appreciated.
